During the presentation, Vaishnaw showcased before-and-after visuals of the proposed upgrades, highlighting modern, commuter-friendly designs inspired by international standards. He particularly emphasised the upcoming transformation of the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. The entire upgradation will cost Rs 1,800 crore. The minister stated that CSMT will be redeveloped to match or exceed the design standards of King’s Cross Station in London.

London's King's Cross Station

King's Cross railway station, commonly referred to as London King's Cross, was opened in 1852 by the Great Northern Railway on the northern edge of Central London. The station complex was redeveloped in the 1970s, which simplified the layout and introduced electric suburban services. It has since become a major terminus for the high-speed InterCity 125 trains.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw mentioned several stations that will be part of the redevelopment project, including Lower Parel, Marine Lines, Shahad, Parel, Byculla, Chinchpokli, Malad, Diva, Mumbra, Kurla, Kolhapur, and Sambhaji Nagar.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced that Nagpur railway station will be redeveloped with a focus on preserving its heritage value. The upgraded station will include modern facilities, better connectivity, and commuter-friendly infrastructure.

Metro One Card

In addition, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed details about the upcoming ‘Mumbai One’ card, a unified travel card designed to simplify transportation across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The Mumbai One card will allow commuters to travel across the Mumbai Metro, Monorail, BEST buses, and other regional transport systems using a single ticket. The initiative aims to provide end-to-end connectivity, making daily travel smoother and more efficient. It will also be expanded to cover Thane and the surrounding regions under the same system.

The infrastructure and integration work is expected to be completed within one month, after which 'Mumbai One' will be officially launched.
