Mumbai: After failing to get the 27 documents from the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) and the signs that the authorities have started the work for proposed jetty near the Gate way of India, the Clean Heritage Colaba Residents Association (CHCRA) is all set to file a writ petition in the Bombay High court on Monday.

Advocate Prerak Choudhary, who represents the CHCRA said that after consultation with the senior counsels, the writ petition will be filed against the jetty project. The residents of Colaba have been vehemently opposing construction of the jetty and terminal proposed between the Gateway of India and Radio Club, citing traffic issues, damage to the heritage site, lack of proper approvals and many other issues. They also allege that the Rs 229 project was given work order months before the clearance from Heritage Conservation was received.

After minister Nitesh Rane performed the ground breaking ceremony in March, the residents met him along with local MLA and speaker Rahul Narwekar voicing their protest against the project. Minister Rane then promised the residents to handover copies of the documents demanded by the residents, which includes approvals and feasibility studies.

"Were were promised that the work will not start until our questions are satisfactory answered. The work was supposed to not start until our next meeting with the minister. However, there are barracading done by MMB and work has begun. We the work to stop until our questions are answered. As we haven't even got the list of 27 documents as promised, we have decided to approach the court to Save Colaba from traffic and damage of the heritage area," said CHCRA.
