During the road concretisation work in Chimatpada, Andheri (East), the BMC removed the nameplate of Param Vir Chakra awardee Sardar Joginder Singh Marg. Despite the completion of the work, the nameplate remained uninstalled for an extended period, sparking criticism from local residents. It was only after an activist brought this oversight to the BMC’s attention that the nameplate was finally reinstated in 48 hours, in the honour of the martyr.

The road stretching from Inconica Hotel to Andheri-Kurla Road was officially named Param Vir Chakra Awardee Sardar Joginder Singh Marg. However, during the cement concretisation work, the nameplate was removed and remained missing for nearly a year. “Local social activists Sahab Singh and Sarbjeet Singh brought the issue to my attention. A martyr who has been awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest military honour for valour, deserves utmost respect,” said RTI activist Anil Galgali. Upon being informed, K East ward assistant commissioner Nitin Shukla ensured the nameplate was reinstalled within 48 hours. The newly installed nameplate was inaugurated by MLA Moorji Patel.

During the 1962 India-China war, Subedar Joginder Singh heroically defended the Bum La Post in Arunachal Pradesh against an assault by 200 Chinese soldiers. Despite being shot in the thigh, he continued fighting after bandaging his wound himself, eliminating many enemies. Eventually captured, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his extraordinary valor. In 1963, even the Chinese army acknowledged his bravery and returned his mortal remains with full military honors.
