Mumbai: Andheri police have achieved major success by arresting a notorious criminal and his two accomplices from Gujarat on July 15. The trio were involved in thefts at more than 40 houses.

In addition, a person who purchased the stolen property has also been detained. During this operation, the police recovered stolen property worth Rs 4.20 lakh, including 100 grams of gold and 500 grams of silver.

Sub-Inspector Samadhan Supe identified the accused as Moinuddin Nizamuddin Sheikh, 46, a resident of Kurla; Ali Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, 49; and Akbar Ali Rain, 33, from Palghar. The court has remanded the accused in police custody until June 19.

According to Senior Police Inspector Umesh Machinder, the case pertains to the Marol Pipeline area of Andheri, where an unknown person entered the house of complainant Vinay Upadhyay, 32 by cutting the door handle. The thief stole gold and silver jewellery and cash worth Rs 7.55 lakh.

Following Upadhyay’s complaint, Andheri police registered a case and assigned the investigation to Police Sub-Inspector (Detection) Samadhan Supe and his team.

Since the crime scene was in a slum area with no CCTV coverage, the police relied on human intelligence and technical analysis. During the investigation, the suspects’ travel routes were examined. CCTV footage from one location showed three suspects wearing raincoats. One of them was identified as Moinuddin Nizamuddin Sheikh.

After an intensive investigation and technical analysis, the police arrested all three accused from a hotel in Vadodara city, Gujarat. The person who bought the stolen property has also been detained.
