Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked a Goods and Services Tax (GST) officer for allegedly facilitating a Rs 4.69 crore input tax credit fraud, the officials said on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as G K Lad, 59, who works at the state GST office at Mazgaon.

According to the ACB, a bogus private company had obtained a GST number by submitting fake documents, which showed Lad's office as the place of business. Thereafter, the firm submitted a tax refund application of Rs 4.69 crore despite not having paid any tax.

Lad allegedly misused his position by conniving with the company. In order to benefit himself and the firm, he granted a refund of Rs 4.69 crore on the basis of false reports, said an ACB official.

A case has been registered against Lad and other persons involved in the fraud, he added. No arrests have been made yet.
