Mumbai: In a tragic incident at Mumbai’s reputed Sathaye College in Vile Parle, a 21-year-old student died after falling from the third floor of the college building on Thursday morning. While the police have initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), the student's father has alleged that his daughter was pushed and has demanded a detailed probe.

The deceased, Sandhya Pathak, a resident of Nalasopara, was a third-year B.Sc. (Mathematics) student in the Science stream. According to college staff, she arrived on campus as usual that morning. Around 7:15 am, she allegedly jumped from the third floor. Staff members rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead due to severe head injuries.

"Her class is on the ground floor. We are unsure why she went to the third floor instead of the classroom," said a staff member. “We heard the sound of her fall and immediately rushed her to the hospital, but sadly, she could not be saved.”

“This is a deeply unfortunate incident,” said Madhav Rajwade, Principal of Sathaye College. “The exact circumstances are still unclear, but we are fully cooperating with the police investigation.”

No Suicide Note Found : Vile Parle police stated that prima facie, the incident appears to be a suicide, and they have registered an ADR. However, no suicide note was recovered. The CCTV footage from the college premises has been seized, and police are recording statements from classmates and friends to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Family Suspects Foul Play : Sandhya’s family, however, is not convinced she took her own life. Her father claimed that she was cheerful and showed no signs of distress that morning. “She had tea with us as usual and was in a good mood. We are certain someone pushed her. We demand a thorough investigation,” he said.

Official Statement from Sathaye College : “On June 19, 2025, at approximately 7:15 am, Sandhya Pathak, a third-year student of B.Sc. Statistics, was found lying in a pool of blood near the main entrance of the college by staff members. The college authorities promptly informed her parents. The Vile Parle Police have initiated an investigation, and the college is extending full cooperation to the police in their inquiry.”

DCP Manish Kalvania Said, ADR has been registered at Ville parle Police Station. A 21 year old girl has committed suicide by jumping from 3rd floor of Sathe College at around 7:10 AM.
