Mumbai: A year after neighbours, Mansuri Shaukat and Chunnu, who had filed cross complaints at Meghwadi police station in Jogeshwari (E), police arrested both the accused late on Monday night. The accused persons have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rioting and voluntarily causing hurt.

According to police, on February 21, 2018, there was a squabble between two young women, over Rabiya clicking a pic of Aaliya in a compromising position, without her permission. This led to a huge spat between the two women, which turned into a violent fight. The other women in their family—Shaheen, Raina, Mehrun and Lalli Bi—also intervened to sort out the matter.

However, instead of stopping them, their families called each other names, worsening the matter. Chunnu and the main complainant, Shaukat came to the rescue of the two, but when things went out of hand, Chunnu hit Shaukat’s wife Shaheen on the head with a hammer. In retaliation, Shaukat tore Chunnu’s wife’s dress and touched her inappropriately, said police.

After this, Shaukat and Chunnu, approached Meghwadi police station to lodge a complaint. At that time, both the men hurled allegations against each other. The two accused were arrested last year and later granted bail. However, the matter was subjudice in a metropolitan court, which ordered police to arrest the accused men.

“Shaukat and Chunnu were arrested by Meghwadi police late on Monday night and were produced in a court on Tuesday. They were sent to police custody for a week for further investigations,” said Navinchandra Reddy, DCP (Zone 10). Police said the women were also named in the complaint, however, Shaukat and Chunnu took the blame on themselves when produced in court.
