Former speaker and senior Congress legislator Nana Patole on Tuesday told the state assembly that his phone was tapped in 2016-17 when BJP was in power in Maharashtra. He wanted to know at whose behest his phone calls were tapped. Patole demanded inquiry in phone tapping and urged the home minister Delip Walse-Patil to take action against the concerned.
Patole was supported by NCP legislator and Minority Affair Minister Nawab Malik and Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu who said phone tapping was a serious matter and it should be probed.
Patole, who aired his views against the functioning of the party, subsequently resigned as BJP MP in 2017 and later re joined the Congress party.
Patole strongly criticized BJP for allegedly issuing threats to the Maha Vikas Aghadi legislators and the party led government deploying the central agencies against the leader of the ruling establishment.
