The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to install Base Transceiver Station (BTS) equipment across Mumbai and its suburbs, including highways, flyovers, subways, foot over bridges and skywalks. There are 36 tentative locations available for installation. The equipment will apparently be capable of processing radio signals to deliver high-bandwidth and low-latency services over a large area.
MMRDA is looking for an agency to install BTS equipment on the poles of 10 flyovers, 12 subways, 16 FOBs and 36 skywalks for a contract period of five years. “We have decided to install the equipment for uninterrupted internet and telecommunication services. We have kept a reserve price of Rs 11 crore per annum,” said an official from MMRDA on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said that they have identified four flyovers on the Western Express Highway (WEH), one on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), four on Dr Ambedkar Road and one on the road over bridge connecting Link Road. It shall also be erected on nine FOBs on WEH and seven FOBs on EEH. This equipment will also be installed on five pedestrian subways and seven vehicular subways on both the highways as well as 36 skywalks, including those in Kalyan, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Thane, Virar and Badlapur apart from several skywalks in Mumbai.
