Mumbai: Meghalaya-based Kmoin Wahlang is the oldest woman marathoner (born in 1948), who completed her full marathon in 4 hours, 33 minutes and 55 seconds. She pulled off the full marathon (amateur) category without any hiccups. Wahlang is a runner, who was discovered by RUN Meghalaya, and since then has participated in quite a few marathons. Carolyne Lyngdoh, who is the Meghalaya co-ordinator for Tata Marathon, spoke to the media on behalf of Wahlang who knows only the language of her state.
Wahlang has participated in this edition for the first time. “In fact, this is her first marathon outside Shillong.” However, she has participated in a couple of events in her state, including the 45K run in the Mawkyrwat Ultra Marathon. Lyngdoh claimed that the city marathon was a cake walk for Wahlang and she has immense potential and stamina.
She was one of the 13 members that came from Meghalaya to Mumbai for the run. RUN Meghalaya is a non-profit organisation which has been spotting such talent to showcase it to the world.
