The Mumbai municipal administration is under scrutiny for allegedly tampering with original maps to facilitate unauthorized constructions. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has already taken action against 20 individuals, and now municipal officials will also be investigated. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed that all illegal constructions be demolished by July. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is set to file an official complaint, with legislators demanding that the accused be charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

During the state legislature’s budget session, MLA Anil Parab raised concerns about 102 fake maps used for construction. In response, Minister Bawankule convened a meeting at the state secretariat, attended by MLAs Anil Parab, Sachin Ahir, Yogesh Sagar, and Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.

A total of 457 unauthorized constructions have been identified within Mumbai’s municipal jurisdiction, of which 66 have already been demolished. Actions are pending against 391 structures. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by a person named Vaibhav Thakur. Consequently, six land records department officials have been disciplined, including two suspensions.

MLAs Yogesh Sagar and Anil Parab demanded direct action against illegal structures instead of issuing prior notices. They also called for strict action against local officials responsible for oversight failures. It was noted that previously demolished structures were being rebuilt, highlighting the urgency of enforcement. Minister Bawankule has set a July deadline for final action on the matter.
