Mumbai: In a shocking case of fraud and extortion, a man allegedly used his deceased brother’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) identity card to pose as a civic employee and demanded ₹10 lakh from shopkeepers.

Following complaints from the affected shop owner Ali Mehandi Javed abedi, a case has been registered against the accused, identified as Mudassir Shabbir Bhaldar.

Between September 2023 and August 2024, Mudassir Bhaldar allegedly misused his late brother Muzammil Bhaldar’s BMC identity card, falsely portraying himself as a municipal employee. He then targeted shop owners in Fatima Manzil, threatening them that their shops were illegal.

He even filed a complaint against them with the BMC's ‘B’ Ward to reinforce his threats. To withdraw the complaint and prevent their shops from being demolished, he allegedly demanded a ₹10 lakh bribe from the shopkeepers.

The affected shopkeepers include Shop No. 05 (Complainant), Shop No. 02 (Mohammed Nanji), Shop No. 06 (Shakeel Hussain), Shop No. 03 (Iqbal Khan). Following the complaint, the Dongari Police have registered an FIR against Mudassir.
