Mumbai: Man in police net for attempt to rob ATM machine

The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 26-year-old man for trying to break into an ATM kiosk in South Mumbai on September 20. The accused Tejas Mukund Sonawane 26, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Cuffe Parade, walked into the ATM kiosk at Kalbadevi at around 1.15 am and tried to break the machine.

Based on a complaint by Kiran Vilas Fanse, 35, a resident of Prabhadevi, an FIR under sections 379 (punishment for theft) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused.

The detection team of the police station scrutinised the CCTV footage and with the help of local informants traced the accused involved. The accused doesn't have any criminal record.

Senior police inspector Bhushan Belnekar confirmed the arrest and said the accused used to commit small thefts.
