Mumbai: Man arrested for robbing railway commuters, 11 mobiles seized

The local crime branch of the Government Railway police(GRP) arrested a 22-year-old man from Boisar in Palghar district for allegedly stealing valuables of railway commuters. The accused identified as Kanchan Singh used to target passengers of express trains and decamp with their belongings when they used to sleep at night. Apart from property worth Rs 2.81 lakh recovered from him, the GRP also recovered 11 mobile phones from him.

In April 2021, Singh had allegedly stolen a purse of a woman commuter who was travelling by Avadh express and was on her way to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh. As per her complaint, her purse contained jewellery worth Rs 2.81 lakh. Based on her complaint an offence of theft was registered at Vasai Road GRP.

During the investigation, the LCB collected CCTV footage of railway stations from Palghar to Borivali and also kept the complainant's mobile phone on tracking. On Sunday the police managed to track Singh to Boisar and arrested him.
