Mumbai: The Malvani police have booked a neighbour for allegedly causing death by negligence after a five-year-old boy drowned in a water tank. The incident occurred on December 16, and the case was registered on December 26 following a complaint by the boy's father against a neighbour, Mohammad Siddique.

According to the FIR, Mohammad Shaikh, 45, and Mohammad Siddique are neighbours residing in Mhada Colony, Malvani. The two families shared a good relationship, and Shaikh's three children often played at Siddique's house. On December 16, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., Shaikh's 5-year-old son, Abdul Rehman, went to Siddique's house to play. On the second-floor terrace of Siddique's residence, there was a black-coloured, water-filled tank. On that day, the terrace door was unlocked, and the tank was uncovered. Rehman reportedly went near the tank to play and accidentally drowned, losing his life. At the time, the Malvani police registered it as an accidental death.

Abdul's father, who works in Saudi Arabia as a denter repairing, returned to India to perform his son's last rites. Following this, he approached the police to file a complaint against the neighbour Mohammad Siddique. Subsequently, the police registered a case under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
