Mumbai Local Train Accident: 30-Year-Old Man Falls From Overcrowded Train Near Kopar, Dies

The accident occurred between Kopar and Diva stations. Gujar boarded the train at Kopar railway station between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Due to the heavy crowd in the compartment, he was standing near the door. He lost his balance and fell while the train was moving, sustaining serious head and bodily injuries.

A 30-year-old man died during peak hours after falling from a moving, overcrowded local train while traveling from Dombivli to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) for work on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Rupesh Ravindra Gujar, a resident of Tukaram Nagar in Dombivli, where he lived with his family.

The accident occurred between Kopar and Diva stations. Gujar boarded the train at Kopar railway station between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Due to the heavy crowd in the compartment, he was standing near the door. He lost his balance and fell while the train was moving, sustaining serious head and bodily injuries. Commuters alerted the railway police, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot. He was taken to Shastri Nagar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Kiran Undre, Senior Police Inspector of Dombivli GRP, said, “We rushed to the spot as soon as we received the information and took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Further investigation is ongoing.”

Rising Railway Accidents

The GRP police shared data on railway accidents in recent years:

In 2023, a total of 127 railway accidents were reported under Dombivli GRP.

- 69 cases involved people being hit by trains.

- 27 cases were of passengers falling from moving trains.

In 2024, a total of 120 railway accidents were recorded:

- 54 people died after being hit by a local train.

- 39 commuters lost their lives after falling from moving trains.

In March 2025 alone, 28 railway fatalities were reported:

- All 28 victims were hit by trains.

- Five commuters died after falling from moving trains.
