The local commuters of Central Railway will able to track live locations of their trains from Wednesday. The CR is going to start this facility from tomorrow with the help of Yatri app. One of the most important features of this app is the live location tracking of the local trains for main line, harbour line, Trans and Uran line trains. For this, the GPS devices are installed within the rakes and also an algorithm has been developed to get the real-time location of local trains.
Users can view trains' live location on the map and see the train symbol moving. The data gets auto-refreshed every 15 seconds and users can also click on the refresh button to get the updated live location of the train.
"Central Railway is looking forward to raising the bar of digital services delivery and making the journey of commuters easier. This app has been developed under Non-Fare Revenue Initiative of Mumbai Division, CR," officials said.
"The Yatri app is continuously enhanced to provide improvised services to the Mumbai locals commuters," said a senior CR officer. He said the Yatri app provides insightful updates about Mumbai local trains on the app for the essential services travellers. Once the services are started for everyone, travellers can plan easy and hassle-free journeys using Yatri app.
It is an earning contract in which Railways will earn a total of Rs 85.06 lakh over a five-year frame. A senior officer of CR said, “Mumbai Division of Central Railway takes the digital route for the convenience of commuters with the Yatri mobile app, developed at zero cost to the railway exchequer"
The Tender for development, operation and Maintenance of Mobile Application “Yatri” over Mumbai Division for a period of five years had been awarded to M/s. CDP (India) Pvt. Ltd. at license fee of Rs.16,02,000/- p.a. under NFR. Total Earning of Railways through this contract is Rs. 85,06,620/- over 5 years.
This app has been introduced with a plethora of features that will help commuters plan their journey and an easier commute. The app is available on Android Play Store and Apple App Store. The users can download and access the app from these respective platforms. However, this facility is available for the users of Belapur - Kharkopar local services. More than 4,50,000 people have already downloaded the app. Another additional feature of the app is that the users who are going to operate the app can share their feedback and suggestions regarding its features. They can also suggest a new feature. Travellers can plan easy and hassle-free journeys using Yatri App.
