Mumbai: Students appearing for the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board examinations are warned by the state board to reach examination centres before time. The board authorities reveal students have been reaching 20 minutes after the examination begins and these students will not be allowed to appear for the examination if they continue coming late.

Students have been exempted to reach the examination centres up to 20 mins after the examination begins, as per state board rules. But students have been taking undue advantage of this rule, according to board officials. Students have been repeatedly reaching late despite several warnings from the state board.

Students revealed traffic and last minute preparation are major reasons for reaching late for examinations. Avinash Shinde, a student, said, “Sometimes we get caught up in unprecedented traffic jams and reach late. Despite leaving early from home, sometimes we experience a delay as some areas are crowded during peak hours.”

Teachers claimed students often come late and try to use the time for various acts of cheating. Sunanda Talekar, a teacher, said, “Students try last minute tricks to involve in some acts of copying. But students ought to realise this will not help them. Also, students need sufficient time to complete the examination and if they reach late they will not be able to attempt all the questions.”

Authorities of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) have warned students stating they will not be allowed to appear for the examination if they continue to reach late. A senior officer of MSBSHSE, Mumbai division, said, “We will not allow any student who comes late repeatedly.

Also if students reach after 20 mins from the start of the paper, they will not be allowed to appear for the same. Students and parents should realise the gravity of board examinations and reach centres before time.”
