Mumbai: Three dogs were found dead in Juhu’s Cooper Hospital in a period of four days after allegedly being poisoned. Animal activists have raised alarms about animal cruelty after the decomposed bodies were found.

On Tuesday, Juhu Police registered a first information report against an unknown individual for poisoning three dogs to death. According to the FIR, a male and two female dogs were found dead at different locations inside the hospital’s vicinity in a period of four days. While the first dog was found dead on Saturday, two more dogs were subsequently found dead on Sunday and Tuesday.

After the hospital failed to file an FIR in this matter, Maharashtra government’s animal welfare officer Roshan Pathak, who is also the legal advisor with PAL Animal Welfare Foundation filed a complaint with Juhu Police. He was assisted by PAL Foundation’s Rakesh Mukka, Rohit Kumar and Tejal Shah.

Pathak alleged that the dogs were poisoned to death as they excreted black liquid from their mouths. He also wrote to the Dean of Cooper Hospital pleading for cooperation in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“It breaks my heart to witness such unimaginable cruelty at Cooper Hospital, a place we once trusted to save lives. Innocent dogs were poisoned, letting them suffer in ways that no living being should ever endure. This horrific act could not have happened without someone’s cold, intentional hand. We must ensure this never happens again, and that these precious souls are given the justice they deserve because they are not just animals, they are victims who trusted us to protect them,” he added.
