A 15-year-old girl was seriously injured after a speeding motorcycle allegedly struck her while she was crossing the road near Mithibai College in Mumbai's Vile Parle (West) on morning of August 22. The rider reportedly did not stop after the collision and fled the area, prompting police to launch an investigation.
The incident took place on N.S. Road No. 1, a busy stretch in Vile Parle known for its educational institutions and heavy traffic. A CCTV video purportedly showing the accident was shared on social media by the handle AndheriLOCA.
Teenager hit while crossing road
According to reports, the girl was crossing N.S. Road No. 1 when the motorcycle approached at high speed and hit her. The force of the collision threw her onto the road, leaving her seriously injured.
People nearby rushed to help the teenager and alerted the authorities. Police subsequently reached the location and arranged for the injured girl to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reportedly attempted to stop the motorcyclist following the crash, but the rider managed to escape before being apprehended.
Police examine CCTV footage
The Juhu Police have registered a case against an unidentified person and are working to establish the identity of the rider and the motorcycle involved.
According to Juhu Police, "A 15-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run accident near Mithibai College in Vile Parle, Mumbai. She was hit by a speeding motorcycle, after which the bike rider fled from the spot. Police have registered a case against an unknown person. They are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the vehicle involved in the incident and trace the absconding accused."
Investigators are examining CCTV cameras installed around the area in an effort to identify the motorcycle and determine the rider's route after the accident. Footage from surrounding roads and nearby establishments could prove important in tracing the suspect.
