The Anti Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a history sheeter who was allegedly found to be in possession of a commercial quantity of mephedrone.
According to ANC officials, the accused has been identified as Nasir Qureshi, 32, a Kurla resident. Officers said that Qureshi was spotted by a team from the Kandivali unit during a routine patrol near the Kohinoor Hospital in Kurla and stopped for a search.
“We found a plastic bag in Qureshi’s pocket, which contained 156 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 23.50 lakh. It is a commercial quantity and hence Qureshi was placed under arrest and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” an ANC officer said.
The officer added that Qureshi has been arrested five times in the past by police stations like Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Mahim and Bandra in various cases, two of them under the NDPS Act.
