Rainfall activity in Mumbai has mostly remained moderate in nature. Up till now, not even one spell of heavy showers has been observed so far.
Santa Cruz has so far recorded just about 250 mm of rains against the monthly June average of 493 mm.
As per IMD's forecast, the city is expected to witness moderate spells of rain today while heavy rains at isolated places are very likely tomorrow.
The rains are likely due to an off-shore trough along the West Coast and a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.
According to IMD official, K S Hosalikar, “Some monsoon favourable conditions have been observed in the latest satellite and within the Mumbai radar which shows cloud bands penetrating over North Konkan including Mumbai, Thane, parts of Palghar and Raigad.”
“Due to these observations, the IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall over most parts of Mumbai city and suburbs for the next two days,” the official said yesterday.
