Mumbai: A 59-year-old resident of Khar reported that gold ornaments valued at Rs8.81 lakh were allegedly stolen from her locker at Canara Bank’s Pali Hill branch in Khar West, Mumbai.

Based on her complaint, the Khar police have registered a case against an unidentified individual for theft on Thursday. According to the FIR, the complainant, Yojna Anand, a 59-year-old homemaker residing in Khar West, holds a joint bank account with her husband, Shivkumar Anand, at Canara Bank’s Pali Hill branch. The couple also availed themselves of the bank’s locker facility to store their silver and gold ornaments.

On May 16, Yojna inspected the locker and confirmed that all the ornaments were intact. She did not visit the bank for several days as she was unwell. On Thursday at 10am, she returned to the branch, opened the locker, and discovered that her silver and gold ornaments were missing.

The stolen items include four gold rings, two gold bangles, four gold bracelets, five small rings, a pair of diamond earrings, two gold chains, two silver glasses, two silver bowls, two silver spoons, a silver plate, and two pairs of silver anklets, collectively valued at Rs8.81 lakh. In her complaint, Yojna alleged that someone had used a counterfeit key to access the locker and steal the ornaments. She reported that she sought clarification from the branch manager but received unsatisfactory responses. Consequently, she lodged a complaint with the Khar police, who registered the case under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house, means of transportation, or place of worship).
