Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the Mumbai-Goa highway is set to be completed by June of this year on Monday, following a lengthy delay. This development is expected to bring relief to daily commuters and travellers heading to the Konkan region, who have endured years of challenging, pothole-ridden roads.

The road transport and highways minister also reiterated that physical toll booths would be removed across the country soon and the Centre will come up with a new toll policy, according to news agency PTI.

Speaking about the infrastructure, Gadkari also stated, "In the next two years, India's road infrastructure will be better than that of the United States." Also, he added, "There were numerous difficulties with the Mumbai-Goa highway. But do not worry, we will complete the road 100 per cent by this June, "as per report.

About New Toll Policy

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the central government is set to introduce a new toll policy within the next 15 days, aiming to eliminate physical toll booths across the country. Under the upcoming system, toll charges will be automatically deducted from vehicle owners’ bank accounts using advanced technologies like satellite-based tracking and automatic number plate recognition.

This move is expected to streamline toll collection, reduce congestion at toll plazas, and address long-standing public grievances related to manual toll systems. The announcement was made during his address at the Vasant Vyakhyanmala event organized by Amar Hind Mandal in Dadar.
