With Mumbai gearing up for the grand Ganeshotsav festivities, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a crucial law-and-order review meeting on Wednesday at Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting focused on preparations to ensure a safe and smooth celebration of the upcoming Ganesha festival.

Senior Police Officials Attend High-Level Meet

Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and several senior police officers were present at the review session. Discussions revolved around crowd management, traffic arrangements, and public safety during the 10-day festival.

State Declares Ganeshotsav as ‘State Festival’

The Maharashtra government has officially declared ‘Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav’ as the state festival. It will bear the expenses for organising and promoting celebrations across the state, aiming to make the event inclusive and grand.

Coordination with Civic and Police Departments

Naresh Dahibavkar, president of the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), also attended the meeting. “Every year we discuss law-and-order issues and raise pending matters with the BMC, traffic police, and law enforcement—concerns that have been on our agenda for the last 3–4 months,” Dahibavkar said.

Dahibavkar noted that in recent years, nearly one lakh devotees gather during Ganesh immersion. “Proper planning is needed to ensure their peaceful and safe participation,” he emphasised.

Festival Dates

Ganeshotsav 2025 will begin on August 27 with Ganesh Chaturthi and conclude on September 6 with Ganesh Visarjan (Anant Chaturdashi).
