Mumbai: In a shocking incident in the upscale Carmichael Road area near Gamdevi, the Gamdevi police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 56-year-old pedestrian found dead on a footpath. The deceased, identified as Arvind Atmaram Jadhav, was allegedly struck on the head with a blunt object. The incident initially appeared as an accidental death but was later confirmed as murder following further investigation.

According to Gamdevi police, Jadhav’s bloodied body was discovered on Tuesday on the pavement near the Marbolo Compound on Carmichael Road. He had sustained a deep injury to the center of his forehead, reportedly inflicted with a hard object. Jadhav was rushed to Nair Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Preliminary assessment indicates that the assault took place between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

About The Case

The case, initially registered as an accidental death, was reclassified as murder following a complaint by the victim’s brother, Anil Jadhav, a resident of Chairman Bungalow on Carmichael Road and a professional musician.

CCTV footage from the area proved critical in identifying the suspect. Gamdevi police scanned surveillance footage from nearby locations and spotted a man loitering in the area at the time of the crime. Acting on the lead, police detained Vedprakash Kaushal Mishra (28), a resident of Darya Sagar slum in Gamdevi. During interrogation, Mishra reportedly confessed to his involvement and was formally arrested under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police are still trying to locate the weapon used in the murder. Senior Inspector Vishwanath Kolekar confirmed that the victim suffered a fatal head injury, though the postmortem report is still pending. Investigators believe a dispute between the victim and accused may have led to the fatal attack. Further interrogation is underway to recover the murder weapon and ascertain the motive behind the crime.
