A 30-year-old dentist has lodged a complaint with the Parksite police stating that she was approached on a call by a person who claimed to be an official from the Border Security Force (BSF).

The 'official' told the doctor that he wanted to get a dental check-up done for 200 BSF jawans. On the pretext of making advance payment for the check-up, he managed to siphon off Rs 1 lakh from the victim's bank account.

According to the police, on June 22, around 8:26 pm, the victim received a phone call from a person who identified himself as Satish Kumar from BSF. Kumar told the victim that he wanted to get a dental check-up done for 200 BSF jawans at her clinic. The victim told Kumar that the fees for each jawan's check-up would be Rs 300.

"Kumar then asked the victim for her clinic's address and also shared ID cards of some of the jawans on the victim's WhatsApp. The accused also made a video call to the victim and made her speak to his superior officer over the call. The accused then tricked the victim to follow their instructions and misused the victim's e-payment gateway to siphon off Rs 1.05 lakh from her account in three different transactions," said a police officer.

Having realised that she had been duped, the victim approached the police and got a criminal complaint lodged on Tuesday.

The police have registered a case on charges of cheating by personation, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, identity theft and cheating by personation by using computer resources.
