The Azad Maidan Police have arrested two fraudsters who duped a Mumbai resident of over Rs 14.40 lakh on the pretext of securing an MBBS seat under the “Ministry quota.” Police have successfully recovered the entire cheated amount, ensuring 100% restitution to the complainant.

Mumbai: The Azad Maidan Police have arrested two fraudsters who duped a Mumbai resident of over Rs 14.40 lakh on the pretext of securing an MBBS seat under the “Ministry quota.” Police have successfully recovered the entire cheated amount, ensuring 100% restitution to the complainant.

FIR registered under IPC Sections 406, 420, 34

According to officials, the case was registered under FIR at Azad Maidan Police Station under Sections 406, 420, 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant, a 43-year-old resident of Dhobi Talao, Mumbai, alleged that between May 26, 2022 and September 29, 2023, the accused lured his daughter with promises of a medical college admission and extracted Rs 14,40,007 from the family.

Accused nabbed from Pune and Uttar Pradesh

The arrested accused have been identified as Krishna Mohan Vishnudatt Sharma (46), resident of Agra, Delhi, Enul Zenul Hasan (32), resident of Dheeraj Nagar, Tanda Tehsil, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. During the investigation led by API Lilhadhar Patil, technical surveillance and informers’ inputs revealed the suspects’ whereabouts.

Accused Sharma was first nabbed from Pune on 3rd August 2024, and subsequent interrogation led police to Hasan, who was arrested from his native village in Uttar Pradesh on 8th August 2025.

Rare case of full recovery achieved

Following sustained interrogation, both accused confessed to their role. Police recovered the full amount of Rs 14,40,007, making this a rare case where 100% recovery was achieved. The accused will be produced before court for further legal proceedings.
