Mumbai: For the third consecutive day, Mumbai on Sunday reported less than 1,000 Covid-19 cases, with 761 new infections and three fatalities.

With the new additions, the city's total count now stands at 11,15,042, with 19,617 deaths.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate has touched 98 per cent, with 10,87,754 being recovered since the pandemic started.

In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra recorded less than 3,000 cases, with 2,962 new patients and six deaths being reported on Sunday. Now, the state's total caseload has surged to 78,14,871, with 1,47,940 deaths.

Briefing about the prevailing pandemic situation, BMC executive health officer Dr Mangala Gomare said, "Through our genome sequencing of Covid patients and waste water surveillance, we have found that Omicron and its sub-lineages are still the dominant strain in circulation."

Pune Jupiter Hospital consultant-pulmonologist Dr Sushrut Ganpule expressed concern that Covid-19 protocols have taken a backseat in offices.

“Though wearing a mask is no longer mandatory except when using public transport, it should not be forgotten that masks are the final barrier against Covid-19. With the virus mutating, it would be difficult to detect. Though the Omicron mutant is not lethal, prevention is better than cure,” he said.
