Mumbai: A fire broke out along South Mumbai’s Coastal Road on Sunday, sending thick smoke across the area. Several visuals of the incident surfaced online showed smoke rising near the coastal road stretch.
According to a report by Mid-Day, teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the blaze. Firefighters carried out operations to bring the situation under control. As a precautionary measure, the entrance of the Coastal Road tunnel was also temporarily closed while the firefighting work was underway. The incident reportedly took place in the afternoon, however, currently, the reason for what caused the fire is not known.

Reacting to the incident, Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad said she was relieved that no injuries were reported. However, she called for a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire and urged authorities to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
Earlier in December, a fire was reported near the Coastal Road project at Marine Drive, creating a temporary disruption in traffic movement. Preliminary information suggested that a cable located along the seafront caught fire. Due to the incident, thick smoke entered the Coastal Road tunnel, leading to traffic disruptions for some time. As a precautionary measure, traffic heading towards North Bond was temporarily halted.
