Mumbai: Despite clear directions from the Bombay High Court to curb illegal pigeon feeding spots, the Kabutar Khana located on Jogeshwari East Station Road remains operational, raising serious concerns over civic enforcement.

Social media user Jaganathan Ramaier raised the issue on X, stating that feeding activity at the Jogeshwari East Station Road Kabutar Khana continued even as of this morning. He also claimed that no police personnel or BMC-appointed Clean-up Marshals were present at the site to enforce the court-mandated ban.

“The Jogeshwari East Station Road Kabutar Khana is still not closed even after the court order. No police nor Clean-up Marshall nearby. Please take immediate action to close it permanently like the Dadar Kabutar Khana,” he wrote, tagging relevant authorities including the BMC’s K/E Ward.

The post echoes ongoing concerns among citizens and health experts about the health hazards posed by pigeon droppings, which have been linked to severe respiratory diseases such as hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

In recent weeks, the BMC acted upon the High Court’s directive by targeting pigeon feeding zones across Mumbai, including a high-profile crackdown at the Dadar Kabutar Khana. However, many residents claim that enforcement is selective and inconsistent.

Enforcement Gaps Under Scrutiny

While several Kabutar Khanas have been sealed or dismantled across the city, locations like the one in Jogeshwari appear to be operating in violation of court orders. The absence of municipal marshals or police oversight further fuels questions about accountability and implementation.

The BMC's K/E Ward is yet to issue a response, but pressure is mounting as more residents demand equal enforcement of the court’s directive across all areas, not just high-profile localities.

As public health remains a primary concern, civic authorities may soon have to address both the legal mandate and community sentiment to ensure compliance citywid
