Mumbai Customs Seizes ₹8 Crore Worth Hydroponic Weed, 4 Bangkok Flyers Arrested

Mumbai: In a major drug bust at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, officers of the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, seized 8.012 kg of suspected hydroponic weed (marijuana) across four separate cases, cumulatively valued at ₹8 crore in the illicit market. Four passengers arriving from Bangkok were arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985 during the operations held between July 29 and 30, 2025.

Three Passengers Held with 1.99 Kg Hydroponic Weed

Based on specific intelligence, Customs officers intercepted three passengers arriving from Bangkok on flight VZ760. Upon examination of their baggage, officials recovered 1.990 kg of suspected hydroponic weed, cleverly concealed in vacuum-sealed black and transparent plastic packets hidden inside trolley bags. The contraband was valued at ₹2 crore, and all three individuals were arrested under the NDPS Act.

Another Bangkok Passenger Caught with 6.02 Kg of Marijuana

In a separate case, Customs officials intercepted another passenger from Bangkok, arriving via flight 6E1060, during profiling checks. The passenger was found in possession of 6.022 kg of hydroponic marijuana, valued at ₹6 crore. The drugs were hidden inside a checked-in trolley bag. The individual was placed under arrest under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Consistent Vigilance Yields Major Catch

These coordinated seizures underline the enhanced vigilance and profiling mechanisms at Mumbai International Airport by Customs teams to combat drug smuggling through air routes.
