Soon after the incident, 62-year-old Bholenath Giri was hospitalized.

He stays in the same house as his estranged wife. She lives on the upper floor with two daughters and a son while Bholenath stays on the ground floor.

From November 2019, Giri had been behind bars and recently came out of jail on June 27. Initially, he stayed at his relatives place in Sion before returning home. The incident took place on June 30 when Giri returned home, following which his wife came and asked him about his well being and later served him food. Soon after the lunch an argument broke out between them about selling their house. It was then she told him that she had mixed cockroach killer liquid in the lunch.

"I was already feeling uneasy and after she told me about mixing cockroach killer in lunch I was sure that she wasn't lying. I rushed for Sion hospital where I had suffered vomiting, I was admitted there for next couple of says and later I approached the Dharavi police and lodged complaint against her," said Giri.

"In 2018 as well the Rita had sedated my liquor but apologized to me," he added.

"We have arrested the woman on the charges of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 328 (causing hurt by means of poision)," said senior inspector of Dharavi police station Gulab Patil.
