Mumbai Crime Watch: Man arrested for murder in Vile Parle bar

Vile Parle Police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly killing Jigar Chawda, 23, after he had gone to consume liquor and get inebriated on June 21. Police had earlier registered a case of attempt to murder, however, murder charges were applied after Chawda succumned to his injuries two days later.

According to police sources, Chawda had gone for drinks in a bar at Vile Parle, Jal Hotel, where he was assaulted by two unidentified men, with wooden sticks and a stone. While the accused duo fled, the locals rushed Chawda to a civic-run hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a case of attempt to murder and causing hurt in committing robbery.

During the probe, it was revealed that the accused duo were janitors and based on this Information, police scrutinised the roles and backgrounds of over 40 janitors between Andheri and Bandra area, following which they questioned each one of them. Police then suspected the role of Jameel Ahmed Ansari, 40, a resident of Juna Bazaar in Nagpada. A police team was dispatched and he was nabbed.

Police have booked him under sections of the IPC for murder, attempted murder and causing hurt while committing robbery. He was produced in a local magistrate court and remanded in police custody.
