Mumbai: The Trombay Police have seized 22.23 kilograms of ganja worth approximately Rs 4.43 lakh and arrested two individuals involved in the illegal trade. The accused have been identified as Dinesh Shivaji Ghadge, a rickshaw driver from Thane, and Uttam Ravi Sahu, believed to be a key supplier from Odisha.

According to Trombay police, the seizure took place late on May 28 around 12:30 AM near the Trombay bus depot during a routine patrol. Officers became suspicious of the duo’s behaviour and stopped them for questioning. When they appeared nervous and evasive, police inspected the bags in their rickshaw, leading to the discovery of a large quantity of ganja and banned tobacco products (gutkha).

Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to transporting drugs from Odisha to Mumbai. Police say Uttam Sahu was the main supplier who would bring drugs from Odisha, while Ghadge handled local transportation and delivery.

Investigators suspect a larger inter-state drug syndicate and are now working to identify others involved in the supply chain. The current operation is part of an ongoing effort to curb narcotics movement in and around Mumbai. Both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace their local contacts and intended recipients of the contraband.
