Mumbai: In a major drug bust, Mumbai's Shivaji Nagar Police raided a one-room kitchen flat in the Govandi area and seized narcotics worth over Rs 6 crore. The raid, carried out on Tuesday based on a tip-off, led to the arrest of 23-year-old Salman Sheikh, who was found in possession of a significant quantity of illegal substances.
Authorities recovered 3 kilograms of mephedrone (MD), estimated to be worth Rs 6 crore, along with 12 kilograms of high-grade ganja valued at approximately Rs 2.4 lakh, according to Hindustan Times report.
In addition to the narcotics, police also seized 36 bottles of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup (commonly known as Corex), worth Rs 18,000, and Rs 1.30 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. The total value of the seized contraband and cash stands at Rs 6.03 crore.
As per the report, Police Inspector Pramod Pawar confirmed that Salman Sheikh had rented the small flat with another individual nearly two months ago. According to residents, the two men maintained a low profile and were often perceived as secretive. Some neighbours reported a recurring foul odour coming from the flat, which raised suspicions of drug-related activities.
While Sheikh has been taken into custody and booked under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now conducting further investigations to trace the absconding suspect and uncover the full extent of the drug network. The Shivaji Nagar Police continue to investigate the case to determine the source and distribution links of the seized drugs.
