Mumbai: The sessions court has refused to grant anticipatory bail to Kandivali-based doctor, Dinesh Gupta, booked for alleged attempted sexual assault on a 24-year-old patient, who visited him with chest pain.
About The Case
As per the complainant, she first visited Gupta on May 26. Three days later, Gupta advised injecting saline and allegedly asked his compounder to go out on the pretext of buying vegetables. The complainant’s sister too was asked to go on the pretext of buying bananas, following which he allegedly tried to rape her.
The doctor, however, claimed innocence and said the patient was not willing to pay Rs 2,000 fees. He also contended that she was not treated by him but by his wife. The victim denied the claim and said all the reports and prescriptions are by Gupta and not his wife.
The court noted that the circumstance set out in the FIR does not give the impression that the victim had any grudge. “She had no reason to put her character at stake as she had been visiting for a few days,” the judge said.
