Mumbai: In a shocking incident that highlights ongoing issues around digital payment acceptance, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly abused and assaulted by an autorickshaw driver near Mira Road railway station on Saturday evening. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the mode of fare payment.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. when the woman boarded an autorickshaw to reach Mira Road railway station. Upon reaching her destination, she informed the driver that she would pay Rs 51 in cash, according to Times Of India report. However, realising that she was short on cash, the woman requested to complete the payment via an online method such as UPI.

The driver, however, refused to accept digital payment and insisted on receiving the fare in full via cash. The woman, pressed for time, placed the Rs 45 she had in hand on the driver's seat and attempted to exit the vehicle. At this point, the driver allegedly began verbally abusing her and subsequently assaulted her in public.

Disturbed by the incident, the woman approached the Naya Nagar Police Station and filed a formal complaint. Based on her statement, the police registered a case against the autorickshaw driver.
