Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man, Ajay Arun Dabhade, for allegedly attempting to murder his wife after she told him there was no more chicken and Chinese food left during dinner. The shocking incident occurred on July 3 at their home in Trombay Koliwada.
According to Trombay police, the accused hit his wife, Swati Dabhade (37), on the head with a rod during the heated altercation. She was immediately rushed to Shatabdi Hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Complaint Reveals Ongoing Domestic Abuse and Dowry Pressure
In her statement to the police, Swati revealed that the violence began after she informed her husband there was no additional food left to serve. Police investigations further uncovered a prior complaint filed by Swati on June 1, accusing her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment.

Accused Was Forcing Wife to Withdraw Dowry Case
Officers said that Dabhade had been allegedly pressuring Swati to withdraw the dowry case and was enraged when she refused. He had also demanded that she bring ₹5 lakh from her father’s house to support his money-lending business—another point of conflict in their troubled marriage.
Mother-in-Law Also Booked for Abetment
The police have also booked Dabhade’s mother for allegedly supporting her son during the assault. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
