On Wednesday, a 33-year-old man was arrested for murdering his 37-year-old friend for Rs 12.66 lakh. The deceased body was found in a gunny bag near Kalher creek in Bhiwandi, on March 9.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, the deceased 37-year-old was identified as Prasad Vijay Narayan Tiwari, who was missing since March 6 and carrying Rs 12.66 lakh in cash. He is a resident of Garden Estate Complex in Thane. Tiwari had been working for Deepak Sanghvi, who deals in the plastic business, for the past 15 years. As part of his job, Tiwari used to collect cash from manufacturers and return to his office in Mulund (West). On On March 6, Tiwari headed out to collect money from manufacturers and by evening had collected Rs 12.66 lakh, including the last payment of Rs 60,000 from Rakesh Gunjal, whose office is at Ramgopal Industrial Estate, Mulund.
Tiwari around 10.30 pm received a call from his friend Dinesh Kumar Shantosh Saroj (33), a tempo driver, who invited him for drinks to his house near Jawahar Talkies in Mulund. Saroj was not alone another common friend, Sunil Yadav, of theirs, was present. According to cops, once Dinesh Saroj and Yadav came to know that Tiwari had Rs 12.66 lakh cash with him, they strangled him and killed him. Later put his body in a gunny bag and used Saroj’s tempo to dump the body near Kalher creek. They abandoned the tempo in the Bhiwandi area and fled with the bag of Rs 12.66 lakh.
The incident came to light when the locals spotted the dead body and alerted the police on March 9. On March 11, they identified the person and informed his family. After investigating the matter and scrutinizing CCTV footages the cops arrested the accused.
