Mumbai: The Crime Branch Unit-1 has arrested an accused from Kherwadi, Bandra, East, in connection with a murder and dacoity case in West Bengal. The accused has been identified as Rabiul Miah alias Babu, 34, a resident of Mohammadpur, P.S. Nalgola, District Malda, West Bengal.
After allegedly committing the crime, Rabiul fled to Maharashtra and was residing in Lonavala and later in Kherwadi, Bandra East. Crime Branch Unit 1 received information about a suspicious individual staying in the Kherwadi area. He was placed under surveillance and, following verification through a confidential informant, was arrested on April 12.
According to the police, a case had been registered against him at Bansihari Police Station on October 14, 2024, under BNS Sections 331(8), 103(2), 309(6), 310(3), 317(3) and Arms Act Sections 25(1A), 1(B), 27, in connection with the murder of a local bookie named Mithun Chakraborty.
The case involves a total of five accused persons, three of whom are still absconding. The Kolkata High Court has already rejected the anticipatory bail application of the arrested accused.
Rabiul had been absconding since the incident and had been working as a labourer at a construction site in Lonavala for the past two months. On January 1, 2025, he moved to the Kherwadi area of Mumbai.

The West Bengal Police have been informed, and a team is being dispatched to take custody of the accused. The operation was successfully executed by officers of Crime Branch Unit-1 under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Kambale.
