On Saturday, the Nagpada Police arrested a 19-year-old youth for stealing a car from a seller he met on an online portal by using a stolen scooter and a stolen phone.
According to Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Arif Vakil Khan (19) alias Faisal, who is a school drop out and a resident of Ghatkopar. Khan earlier this month had stolen couple of scooters, one of which he used to steal the car from the seller. After stealing the scooters Khan uploaded one of the stolen scooter’s photos on the online portal. Later a buyer approached Khan, who later met him the scooter.
Khan then took Rs 15,000 from the buyer and borrowed his phone to make a call, but instead of giving back the phone Khan fled from the spot with the cash on the scooter. Khan then used to the same phone to contact the complainant in the case, Mohamed Anas Memon (19), who had uploaded his car’s photo to sell it on the same online portal.
Khan approached Memon and met him in Nagpada last week around 11.15 am. On the way, Khan deliberately provided a lift to a stranger midway. Khan then went to meet Memom and told he had come with a friend and asked his car for a test drive. Memom ten handed over the car keys thinking his (Khan’s) friend is waiting nearby with the scooter. But Khan fled from the spot with the car, and later when Memom approached the man, on Khan’s scooter, he found out that he was not Khan’s friend but had taken a lift. After the incident, Memom approached police and lodged an FIR. The police arrested Khan on Saturday after they received a tip-off.
