Mumbai: A head-on collision between two cars caused traffic disruption on Mumbai's Coastal Road on Thursday morning. The accident occurred inside the Coastal Road tunnel leading to Nariman Point, creating a temporary traffic bottleneck. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, as confirmed by Mumbai police.

According to the police official, the incident took place around 8:45 AM when one car was traveling from Worli towards NCPA, and another car began following it. During the pursuit, the two vehicles collided amid heavy traffic. This led to the temporary closure of the tunnel connecting Nariman Point to Bandra, causing a significant traffic jam and a diversion of the route from Nariman Point.

Both vehicles sustained severe front and side damage. Dr. Pravin Mundhe, Deputy Police Commissioner of Zone 1, stated, "While no one was injured, both vehicles sustained damage. The Marine Drive Police are investigating the matter."

The 10.58-km coastal road stretches from the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Following a request from the traffic police, the civic authorities had prepared a proposal to install speed detection cameras to enforce speed limits. The installation of these cameras along the route is expected to complete by May 2025.
