An attempt of ATM robbery was thwarted by Dindoshi Police, thanks to the system fitted in the machine, which triggered an alarm in the main office in Hyderabad soon after the accused tried to break the machine open. The Hyderabad employees of the bank then alerted police, who rushed to the spot and arrested one accused, while two others, all record criminals, managed to escape.
According to police officials, three men had broken into an ATM centre at Santosh Nagar in Goregaon (E) on July 2 at around 2.45 am. The trio tried to open the machine to acquire the cash kept in it, but in the process, triggered an alarm at the Hyderabad office of the nationalised bank, which immediately alerted the local police.
When the police team reached the spot, they saw the accused trio meddling with the ATM machine which contained ₹14 lakh. Upon trying to catch the burglars, two of them escaped while one man, identified as Hitesh Gupta, was caught. An officer said that they have also identified the other accomplices and have captured their images on the CCTV cameras.
Gupta and his accomplices have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for burglary and are on the lookout for the other two accused. Pr9ve revealed that all three accused have a past criminal record of theft cases.
