Navi Mumbai: Among the 13 people who died on Wednesday after the boat to Elephanta capsized, one was a 38 year old Nerul resident, Padnya Vinod Kamble.
The sole bread earner of her family, Kamble did whatever job came her way to support her 12th standard going son and class IX studying daughter.
A woman who was very social and loved to go on trips, had planned the elelphanta trip with a group of friends from Chembur. The family is yet not aware who the friends were and if they survived or not.
“The extended family together will now take care of her kids. We are yet to come into terms with how we lost her in split second in this tragedy. She was always switching jobs to earn better for her kids. Even now she was looking for a job and hence she shifted to Nerul to stay with her uncle’s family,” Kamble’s cousin, Kiran Nikam, said.
According to the family, her husband stayed back in their hometown and she had recently shifted with her kids to the uncle’s house in sector 10 of Nerul and was in search of job.
The family has further asked strict action against the ones responsible for the accident. “If the boat was over loaded with passengers, strict action should be taken against them. Why were the navy people taking trials in such crowded area where the passengers travel. The sheer negligence has destroyed so many families,” Nikam added.
Kamble was among the 10 bodies that were found by the Naval officers. Ten bodies that were found were taken to Naval Hospital in Karanja, Uran and later taken to Uran rural hospital for post mortem.
“Our staff had been working continuously for 36 hours ensuring that all the bodies were identified and handed over to the relatives properly. All the bodies were finally handed over on Thursday morning,” senior police inspector Nitesh Badgujar from Mora Coastal police station said.
