The term of Shiv Sena-led municipal corporation ended on March 08. All the authority comes under the BMC commissioner who was appointed as an administrator of BMC. The administrator was taking legal opinions before the commencement of any work hence, desilting work got delayed. Opposition party BJP had conducted parallel monitoring of desilting work and alleged poor desilting work in Mumbai. Thereafter, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal visited various nullahs and had taken review of desilting work and ordered contractors to work in two shifts. He also ordered Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to monitor desilting work.
Thereafter, On June first week BMC claimed that they have overachieved the desilting work target and removed 105 percent silt from various nullahs of Mumbai.
This year BMC has installed CCTV cameras on every desilting site and made it compulsory for contractors to upload pictures while loading silt in the trucks. BMC has also put all the details on its website so people can check desilting work online.
