Mumbai: A wet lease bus from the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet caught fire during maintenance at the Oshiwara bus depot on Friday afternoon. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, though the bus was completely destroyed, and a nearby petrol pump suffered minor damage.
The fire broke out in a bus operated by contractor M/s Hansa, which was undergoing repairs at the time. According to a spokesperson from BEST, the blaze was triggered due to overheating caused by a technical malfunction.
"A fire broke out in a bus belonging to Hansa at Oshiwara depot while it was being repaired. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the bus was completely damaged," the spokesperson stated.
Around 10 to 12 buses owned by the contractor were parked at the depot when the incident occurred. A fire tender was promptly dispatched, and the flames were extinguished within minutes, preventing the fire from spreading further and averting a major disaster.

According to sources, petrol pump located near the bus depot sustained minor damage but was not significantly affected due to the swift action of the fire brigade.
