Mumbai: Four years after filing a complaint, the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bandra on Monday ordered an inquiry into a complaint filed by former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal director Sameer Wankhede’s sister, Yasmeen, against senior NCP leader Nawab Malik, alleging stalking and defamation.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashish Keshavrao Awari directed the local police to investigate the allegations made by Yasmeen and submit a report by February 15. Yasmeen, who is also a lawyer, initially filed the complaint in 2021 before the Andheri Magistrate Court. However, the case was later transferred to the Borivali Magistrate Court, which serves as an MP and MLA court.

Subsequently, when the Bandra Magistrate Court was designated as an MP and MLA court, the case was transferred there due to jurisdictional changes. For years, the complaint remained unresolved due to these jurisdictional issues, according to Yasmeen's lawyer, Kashif Khan. The Bandra Magistrate Court has now taken up the matter and ordered an inquiry, Khan added.

About The Case

In her complaint, Yasmeen alleged that Malik made scandalous remarks against her on social media and in interviews. This was during a period when Malik had leveled several accusations against Wankhede, who was serving as the zonal director of the NCB and was investigating a case involving Malik’s son-in-law. Yasmeen further claimed that Malik, harboring a grudge against Wankhede, made defamatory allegations against her and her family in an attempt to intimidate them. She accused Malik of posting her photographs on social media with defamatory captions, calling her a 'lady don'.
