Mumbai: The Mumbai Airport Customs officials have arrested a Uganda national for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth Rs 11.8 crore. The passenger had ingested 100 capsules containing cocaine.
According to the Customs officials, on March 02, based on spot profiling, one suspected passenger who arrived from Uganda to Mumbai was intercepted at the arrival hall of the airport.
During questioning regarding the travel details and purpose of visit to Mumbai, the passenger showed some signs of nervousness and admitted about ingestion of some capsules containing white coloured crumbled substance purported to be drugs.

The passenger was taken to the Judicial Magistrate with a request to order recovery under the medical supervision. "During the next 03 days, 100 capsules were purged by the passenger with total net weight of 1.18 kgs of white crumbled substance purported to be cocaine with estimated illicit market value of Rs 11.8 crore and was recovered with medical assistance. Action under the Provisions of the NDPS Act is being initiated. Further investigation is in progress," said a Customs official.
Recently the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials had arrested a Brazilian national woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle by ingesting 100 capsules containing 1096 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs 10.96 crores in the illicit market.
In another case, on 03 February 2025, based on specific input one 93-year-old passenger was intercepted and found to be smuggling 485 grams of gold dust provisionally valued at Rs 40 lakh which was concealed in the clothing worn by him. Said gold was seized under provisions of the Customs Act.
