Mumbai Airport Customs Arrests 35-Year-Old Kenyan Woman For Smuggling Gold Worth ₹1.16 Crore

The Airport Customs officials have arrested a 35-year-old Kenyan woman for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 1.16 crore. According to the Customs sources, on the basis of profiling one passenger Hibo Abdirahman Shekh was intercepted at CSMI Airport, at the arrival hall after she had crossed the green channel when moving towards the exit gate.

Mumbai: The Airport Customs officials have arrested a 35-year-old Kenyan woman for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 1.16 crore.

According to the Customs sources, on the basis of profiling one passenger Hibo Abdirahman Shekh was intercepted at CSMI Airport, at the arrival hall after she had crossed the green channel when moving towards the exit gate. The said passenger had arrived from Nairobi to Mumbai on Tuesday.

"On the basis of profiling and suspecting of having concealed any dutiable or contraband goods in the baggage and on person, the AIU officers decided to conduct the personal search and examine the baggage. During the personal search, 22 KT Gold Melted Bars (12 Pcs) having total gross and net weight 1485 grams were seized from her. The same were valued at Rs. 1.16 crore," said a Customs official.

He added, "The statement of the passenger recorded wherein she had admitted to have possession, concealment, carriage, non-declaration and recovery of said seized goods. In her statement, the passenger had admitted that she was involved in smuggling of gold in lieu of monetary consideration. Subsequently she was placed under arrest."

On Sunday, on the basis of specific input, Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai, had intercepted two passengers who had arrived from Dubai to Mumbai. During the operation, Customs officers recovered 21 KT Crude Gold pieces having Net weight of 789 grams provisionally valued at Rs. 58.83 lakh. The said Gold was concealed in undergarments worn by the passengers, officials said.
